Whether you’re ready to smooth out fine lines, enhance facial features, or restore lost volume, getting filler is an exciting step in your aesthetic journey. But if it’s your first time, it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous.

At JASI Skin + Wellness, we want every patient to feel informed, empowered, and confident before sitting in the chair. Here’s your complete guide to preparing both mentally and physically for your first filler appointment.

1. Know Your “Why”

Before your appointment, take a moment to think about what brought you in. Are you noticing volume loss? Curious about enhancing your lips? Want to soften lines or restore balance to your face? Whatever it is, we’ll talk it all out together during your consultation.

We’re big on education and transparency—our goal is to make sure you understand your options and feel confident making an informed decision. There’s no pressure, ever. We’ll walk you through what’s possible, what’s not, and how we can achieve natural-looking results that align with your face and goals.

This is a collaborative process. We’re here to enhance—not change—what makes you you.

2. Do Your Research—But Avoid the Rabbit Hole

It’s great to be informed, but scrolling through TikTok and Reddit threads for hours can leave you overwhelmed. Every face is unique, and what works for one person may not be right for you.

Instead, trust your injector’s experience and let them guide you based on your anatomy, goals, and safety.

3. Book a Consultation First

A personalized consultation is key—especially if it’s your first time. We’ll discuss:

  • Your goals and concerns
  • Your medical history
  • Which filler is right for your needs
  • What kind of results you can realistically expect
  • Limitations of the treatment and what not to expect
  • A custom treatment plan and pricing

We may even recommend a comprehensive plan that includes skin treatments, all-natural filler options like PRF, and medical-grade skincare to support your glow from every angle.

4. Avoid Blood Thinners

To help reduce bruising and swelling, avoid the following for at least 3–5 days before your appointment (unless medically necessary):

  • Aspirin or ibuprofen
  • Fish oil or omega-3s
  • Alcohol
  • Green tea, ginger, turmeric, garlic, and cinnamon

Arnica tablets and pineapple can also help minimize bruising if taken a few days before.

5. Come With a Clean Face

Skip makeup and skincare the day of your appointment. A clean canvas helps us prep the area properly and minimizes the risk of infection. If you forget, don’t worry—we’ll cleanse your skin before treatment.

6. Eat Something Beforehand

Having food in your system helps avoid lightheadedness or fainting. You should feel comfortable and calm—not hungry or jittery—during your session.

7. Dress Comfortably & Plan Ahead

You might have some swelling, tenderness, or minor bruising afterward, so don’t plan major events or photoshoots right after your appointment. We recommend avoiding:

  • Intense workouts for 24–48 hours
  • Saunas, steam rooms, or facial massages
  • Lying flat for a few hours post-treatment (especially for lips or under-eyes)

8. We Don’t Rush Your Injections

This isn’t a 10-minute appointment—and that’s intentional. Natural-looking results take time, and we believe in letting your filler settle properly before making any adjustments. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for your filler to fully integrate and reveal your final look.

We’ll reassess during your follow-up and can always make tweaks if needed. Your beauty deserves thoughtful planning—not pressure.

9. Follow Your Post-Care & Check In With Us

Post-care is just as important as the treatment itself. You’ll receive detailed instructions on how to care for your skin after your appointment, and you can always review them online here:

Filler Pre- & Post-Care Instructions

Make sure to:

  • Follow all aftercare instructions
  • Schedule your 2-week follow-up appointment
  • Reach out with any concerns or questions—we’re here to support you every step of the way

10. Have Realistic Expectations

Filler isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about enhancing what’s already there. Swelling and bruising are common, and results continue to improve over 1–2 weeks. One syringe won’t transform your whole face, but we can absolutely build on your results over time.
